Today is Independence day and many are celebrating our Indepence as a country. Many churches are doing messages on Sundays about “God and Country”. Sometimes I fear this theme, because I feel it could be a holiday used from the devil to dehibilitate us as Christians. I heard it said one time to avoid anything that makes us comfortable here on earth. I think ideas that state that America is a Christian nation, is a dangerous idea, and that we celebrate God setting America aside as a New Israel almost sinful. The reason why I think this is because it can cause us to be proud to be an American first, and become concerned with American and it’s interest. When enemies come and attack America, we rise up and determine to defend ourselves and our interest. We seek peace with a sword, when the scriptures clearly state those who live by the sword die by the sword. As Christians our home is not America or Iran or wherever you are a Christian. Our home is in heaven, we are to live as strangers and aliens in this earth (1 Peter 2:11). The heros of our faith are even praised as being such (Heb 11:3). Paul even states, “Our citizenship is in heaven from which we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Phil 3:20I would like to therefore change today’s holiday to “In Dependence Day”, the day for us as Christians to celebrate Jesus Christ, as setting us free from the kingdom of darkness (Col 1:14), to celebrate our desire to be selfless and live in total dependence upon one King, Jesus Christ.Kings and kingdoms will come and go, nations will rise and fall, but one thing that will always remain is Christ and His Kingdom. It will continue to grow and expand as the days quickly approach the time appointed for His coming. We can therefore celebrate being apart of a Kingdom, of a Heavenly Country that will not perish or pass away. Praise the Lord. Eagerlly await His coming. Hasten the day of His coming, by living to pursue His Kingdom and rightesouness first, filling up what is lacking in His sufferings by seeing to it that others who are strangers of our Heavenly Country into it.I am proud to be a Heavenly Citizen! Now I do want to state that if you have opposing views or might be offended, please write in gentleness in comment. I am open to thoughts and suggestions. I know I could be off, but this is what I feel strongly.
